Transportation of currency is allowed, whether entering or leaving Italy, with no declaration for amounts not exceeding 10.000,00 Euros. When this sum is exceeded it is necessary to fill a declaration (modello di dichiarazione) to be lodged at the customs offices. The form is available in Italian and English on the Agenzia delle Dogane website.

A traveller arriving from a non EU country can bring with him, in exemption of customs duties, a maximum amount of cigarettes of 200 pieces (1 carton). A traveller circulating through EU countries can bring with him a maximum amount of 800 cigarettes (4 cartons).

Dogs coming from EU countries entering Italy must be provided with a special passport issued by a veterinary authorized by the competent Health Authorities of the country pets are coming from. The passport shall contain detailed information about the animal, tattoo or microchip, and the owner certifying the validity of the rabies vaccination. For pets coming from third countries, import regulations differ whether the country is included in the European commission list or not. In the first case the pet must be provided with a health certificate issued by a veterinary authorized by the competent Health Authority of the country pets are coming from. The certificate shall contain the good health of the animal and rabies vaccination. The animal must be recognizable through a tattoo or microchip. In the second case the animal must be provided with a health certificate which indicates the titration of antibodies against rabies. It is not required tick and echinococcus prevention for dogs.

A tourist visa cannot be renewed or extended for more than 90 days. Except for serious reasons (humanitarian causes or reasons deriving from constitutional or international obligations) or assumptions of scientists governed by the law 27 of the Unified Text on Immigration (legislative decree no. 286, 25 July 1998)
If your driving licence has been issued by a non European country you must have an International Driving Permit. If the international permit does not comply with the models established by the international conventions, which Italy has applied to, it must be accompanied by a sworn translation of your driving licence or by an equivalent document.
