Tiziano and Caravaggio in Peterzano

06.02.2020 - 17.05.2020

Simone Peterzano, protagonist of the artistic landscape of the Renaissance

64 pieces, many of which have never before been exhibited to the public, to tell the story of this author’s artistic production, first, a student of Tiziano and later maestro to Caravaggio. The exhibit is structured in nine sections ranging from his period of training and youth in the shadow of the beloved Tiziano to delve deeper into the iconography of the music, into the erotic subjects and even more into the research of the now famous Angelica and Medoro, into his activity as an artist in Veneto and Lombardy and his arrival to Milan, his Lombard affirmation, and finally, his role as Caravaggio’s first teacher.
The exhibit closes with the Young Sick Bacchus by Michelangelo Merisi which is placed side-by-side with a preparatory drawing by his maestro. A bridge with the future and with the new century which was about to begin.
