Venice, August 29 to November 25, 2012 – Architecture that serves people
The 13th International Architecture Exhibition rounds out the 2012 edition of Venice’s Biennale, running from August 29th to November 25th. Common Ground is the theme this year, putting at the forefront architecture that respects people, the environment, and the particular landscape in which it resides.
Sixty-nine different projects by architects, photographers, artists, critics and scholars will go on show in a unique exhibition itinerary that extends from Venice’s historic center and the Central Pavilion to the Gardens and Arsenale. Each of the projects offers original ideas and installations created specifically for the Biennale, while the exhibitors themselves have chosen collaborators with which they share their own special Common Ground – meaning a total of 119 participants in all.
As per usual, the Exhibition will be share the spaces of the Biennale with 55 country participants, including four nations exhibiting for the first time: Angola, Kuwait, Perù and the Republic of Kosovo.
The Italy Pavilion at the Arsenale is organized by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, along with the General Directorship of the Fine Arts, Architecture and Contemporary Art (PaBAAC), and curated by Luca Zevi.
Official side events of the 13th Architecture Biennale have been prepared by international entities and institutions, and will be set up in various locations around the city.
