Invisible spheres. Within the animal habitat

The Sticker Museum offers an unusual journey into the world – indeed the worlds – of the animals, with the intent not just to present them in their natural habitat, as seen through the human eye, but also to try to imagine how the animals themselves perceive, interact and build the environment they use to live in. There are two identified tracks. On the one hand, a concept of the environment, according to which, through the collection of stickers, everyone could reconstruct a kind of small natural history museum, in which each image represented a cut-out of the natural world, static and separated from the context; a sort of two-dimensional small diorama (a miniature model) in which the nature and the animals were observed 'from outside', by the man-observer. On the other hand, the look of the living animal, its perceptual experience 'from within'. These two apparently conflicting, but actually complementary, points of view are pointed out in the exhibition by combining cards, albums and various materials with installations, aimed to 'bring people into' the world perceived by the animal itself, recreating suggestions on the possible way adopted by the animal to live and build its own environment. Therefore, the exhibition will propose a path starting from the animals and their environments, as seen through the human eye, up to the 'unknowable worlds' mentioned by Jakob von Uexküll, the German biologist deeply estimated by Heidegger and Rilke, by passing through a section dedicated to strange and fantastic animals, much loved and widely represented in the stickers, and a section of 'exotic senses', some special perceptual systems such as biosonar (also called Echolocation) or magnetic compasses. It is also worth taking into account the dens built by the animals themselves, which often represent small masterpieces of architecture and engineering. It is an event sponsored by: Sticker Museum - Municipality of Modena City.
