Pavia, September 15 to December 16, 2012 – Renoir’s paintings, pastels and sketches at Castello Visconteo

Castello Visconteo
Through December, the Scuderie del Castello Visconteo in Pavia hosts a significant retrospective dedicated to one of the foremost exponents of Impressionism, Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
With a selection of paintings, pastels and drawings, the exhibition retraces the career of one of the world’s favorite French artists, highlighting his important role in the history of modern art.
Visitors to the halls of the Scuderie can admire some of the most high-profile works from the some of the most prestigious international museums, including Washington’s National Gallery of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, the Parisian Centre Pompidou and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille. All the pieces are making their first trip to Italy, to be on display in Pavia.
Renoir became famous for being one of the founders of Impressionism, even if during his 60-year-long artistic journey, he never stuck to one style or school.
In almost a half-century, Renoir would realize more than 5,000 artistic works.
