Renaissance Carnival of Ferrara

23.02.2017 - 26.02.2017

Put on a mask and come to experience the atmosphere of the House of Este Carnival in Ferrara, one of the major centres of the Italian Renaissance.

From the 23rd to the 26th of February, this UNESCO city relives its former glory and recreates the times of dukes and duchesses of the 15th and 16th centuries, paying homage to Eleanor of Aragon.

The Estense castle and the city palaces of the Este court form the backdrop to the carnival parade. The parade, in honor of Eleanor of Aragon, will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th, from Palazzo Schifanoia and, crossing the historic heart of the city, will reach Piazza Municipale, where a big show of street theatre will be staged. The celebrations, taking place during the last long week-end of February,  will involve many events reminiscent of the renaissance, banquets with typical dishes, theater shows, themed conferences, masked balls and concerts, guided visits to museums and workshops for children.
