Raffaello e l'eco del mito

27.01.2018 - 06.05.2018

Accademia Carrara - Bergamo

The Raffaello e l’Eco del Mito exhibition takes its cue from the Saint Sebastian, a masterpiece by the young Raphael in the Accademia Carrara collection. The exhibition paints a full picture of Raphael’s training and retraces the extraordinary success of the artist since the nineteenth century, when the precious painting arrived in Bergamo

The interest in Raphael has continued unabated through the twentieth century and up to the present day. De Chirico and Picasso, Luigi Ontani and Giulio Paolini, Vanessa Beecroft and Francesco Vezzoli are some of the artists who have looked to Raphael and his legend. Their works have varied widely, ranging from re-use to quotation, and deference to devotion, but they all show how the master from Urbino is still very much alive in the contemporary world.
