Vicenza

Vicenza is well known as the “Palladio city” who realized many architectural facilities, and is one of the most important art centre in Italy.
It is a destination for cultural tourism with visitors coming from any part of Italy and from abroad. Known as the ancient  Vicetia during the Roman period, the most ancient verification on its name dates back to 135 a.C..
Thanks to the architectural contribution of Andrea Palladio, the city became part of the UNESCO World Heritage, to which belong the Palladio Villas built in the territory.
During the Middle Age the city was dominated by the Scaligeri. From 1404 to 1797, offering itself to Venice, (as well as other cities in Veneto and Lombardy did), became part of the Serenissima Venetian Republic with Venice as its capital. It follwed four centuries of peace and wellness, where arts reached excellent levels and the economy raised. The sixteenth century was the century of the late renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, who left to Vicenza and to the entire world an irreplaceable architectural heritage. Among the main works we recommend the Palladio’s Basilica in the central Piazza dei Signori, the Olimpic Theatre, Villa Capra known as the not far away from the inhabited area. The Palladio’s tradition was follone by Vincenzo Scamozzi and by other architects until the XVIII century. In the XIX century, after the fall of Napoleon, the city became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then of the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom, unifying to the  Kingdom of Italy in 1866.
Since the 1950s a strong economic and industrial development made the city one of the most flourish city of Italy.
