In its 13th year, the 2012 edition of Maremetraggio will again offer seven days dedicated to a promising future for Italian and international cinema. 
The basic formula of this Festival is International, Short and New Films, with 74 short films from all over the world going on show. The films originating in Italy, as yet practically unseen, have been selected with an attentive eye.
Also this year the Festival will make homage to young cinema, bringing several young talents to Trieste – rising stars and filmmakers who by now have been acclaimed for their significant appeal in both Italian and European cinema.
Additionally, there will be two competition categories: “Maremetraggio” and “Ippocampo,” and a new category, in collaboration with the European sailing fleet Barcolana: a regatta display to promote the unique terrain and sea of the city to Italians and the rest of the Continent. This will also hail a new competition entitled “Sopra Sotto Vento” “(Over Above the Wind”).
Every competition will offer the public a full programme of projections and encounters with actors and directors, special events, workshops, and other happenings with important players in Italian and foreign cinema. 
Again, Trieste makes its name with Maremetraggio – a city on the extreme Eastern edge of Italy that, thanks to its fortunate geographical position between the Adriatic and the Carso Seas, is an ideal locale for this great summer festival of quality cinema.
