Leonardo as drawn by Hollar

11.01.2019 - 05.05.2019

The Seventeenth century's Bohemian artist who studied Leonardo's drawings

Leonardo's primary interest of depicting feelings in portraits focuses on all the manifestations of human emotions, joy and pain, amplified by youth or toned down by age. In his drawings, instead, Leonardo is immediate and spontaneous: on paper, his taste for grotesque and his desire to highlight physiognomic anomalies find full freedom of expression. The exhibition, the works by Hollar will be compared with two drawings by Leonardo, as an extraordinary loan by Biblioteca Ambrosiana of Milan, documenting the close relationship between the engravings and Leonardo's originals.
