Venaria Reale di Torino (the Royal Palace of Venaria) invites visitors to admire the extensive Este painting collection arriving from the Galleria Estense di Modena and other Italian and European museums.
During The Italian Courts: The House of Este, expect works by the likes of Cosmè Tura, Dosso Dossi, Correggio, Titian, Tintoretto, Guercino, Velàzquez and the other grand masters, making for an artistic and cultural tour spanning from the Renaissance of the 1500s to 1700s Baroque. The exhibit is a testimony to the practice of arts patronage and of the House of Este’s cultural sophistication.

The role of the Este Court during its reign in Ferrara and Modena is immediately evident in the exposition. The meticulous selection of artworks takes us on a fascinating journey that covers thoroughly the Renaissance – e.g. paintings by Titian and Dossi, and the legendary alabaster dressing rooms from the Ferrara Castle – and carries on to the splendor of the Baroque period under the Duchy of Francesco I. Viewers can delight in such rarities as the Court’s literary production and the Estense Harp.
Additional paintings from Modena's Palazzo Ducale highlight Tintoretto, Correggio, Guercino and Guido Reni – personages that helped a visionary such as Duke Francesco transform Modena into a capital town worthy of international renown.
In concurrence with the event, the Royal Palace and its Centro Conservazione e Restauro have contributed to the restoration of two altarpieces from the Church of San Francesco di Mirandola, damaged by the 2012 earthquake in Emilia Romagna. The works are on view in a special section of the exhibit.
