The rediscovery of the “Fiera di Saluzzo (Seventeenth Century)” by Carlo Pittara

The GAM in Turin exhibits the majestic painting “Saluzzo Fair (Seventeenth Century)” presented by Carlo Pittara in 1880 at the 4th National Exposition of Fine Arts in Turin. The great work caused wide excitement in the public who visited the National Exposition, for the originality of the invention, the realistic result of the reconstruction of the ancient fair, next to the dimension in natural scale of the representation. A sort of great fresco, or even the premonition of a cinemascope vision. Next to the painting there is a large graphic which makes it possible to identify the buildings, the homes of Saluzzi, and the different species of animals depicted. The exhibit is enriched with a section dedicated to the other works from the 1880 National Exposition.
