Randazzo: a hamlet in lava

An original aspect of the culture of Etna is the working of the lava, which has given rise to unusual sculptures and architecture. Randazzo, on the northern slope of Etna, is all built in volcanic rock. On the facade of the church of Santa Maria, in the doors and the palaces of the historical town centre we find black blocks dug from the lava flow of the volcano on which the towns and villages of Etna stand.
