Historical Vieste

The massive construction of the castle, built by Frederick II in 1240, overhangs the sea and dominates the historical town of Vieste. Passing through an imposing medieval gate we reach the historical town centre and climbing the stairway we reach the cathedral, one of the most interesting examples of eleventh-century Puglian architecture. Here, in 1554, the pirate Dragut decapitated many of the 5,000 people of Vieste, who died during his ferocious raid.
