Piazza del Popolo is the Renaissance heart of Ascoli Piceno. Buildings in various styles, amongst which the historical Cafe Meletti in art nouveau style, face onto the square. The square is dominated by the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo, surmounted by a thirteenth century tower and with a massive portal dating from 1546. The side of the church of San Francesco closes the square.
