Assergi is a hamlet of L'Aquila, standing at the foot of the Gran Sasso, on the road to Campo Imperatore. As we follow the road to the National Park we notice the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Assunta, dating from the twelfth century, and the facade of mediaeval houses. Behind the hamlet towers the Gran Sasso massif, which can also be reached by cable car.
