Arona, the San Carlone statue

The colossal seventeenth-century statue of Saint Charles Borromeo, known as the 'San Carlone', is the monumental symbol of Arona. The nearby seminary and the church date from the same period. Descending the lake it is worth visiting the Piazza del Popolo, with the fifteenth century Casa del Podestà, and the coast road flanked by splendid villas.
