Tempio di Ercole

The Tempio di Ercole, in ancient Doric style, is perhaps the oldest in Agrigento. Nowadays only a mass of ruins remains, from which eight columns, raised in 1924 thanks to the intervention of an English captain, rise. The colonnade stands in the heart of the archaeological area with its elegant profile. The Greek semi-god Heracles, for the Romans Ercole (Hercules), was the preferred hero of Greek Sicily and in particular the protector of the city of Agrigento.
