Prato, Santa Maria delle Carceri and Castello dell’Imperatore

The simple and unfinished facade of Santa Maria delle Carceri does not do justice to the importance of the monument which, also thanks to its splendid interior, is one of the principal examples of the early Renaissance. The nearby Castello dell'Imperatore, built on the orders of Frederick II, recalls with its square plan the Swabian castles in Puglia and Sicily; in particular it recalls the Puglian Castel del Monte.
