Rimini: Arco d’Augusto

Here before us is one of the most ancient Roman arches, built by Augustus in 27BC as the honorary gate to the city on the Via Flaminia. The monument has only one arch, and is decorated with tondos in relief with divinities, columns and a tympanum. The top of the arch, originally occupied by a statue, was covered in battlements in the Middle Ages.
