Varenna is a small fishing village, which was first recorded in chronicles dating back to year 1000, lying on the shores of the Lecco branch of Como Lake. Its headland seems to plunge into the water, with a mountain right behind it. Facing Varenna, on the other side of the lake, there is Bellagio and a bit further Menaggio.
