Visiting the Famous Movie Studios and Discovering Cinema's Secrets, from Yesterday and Today

Known as The Dream Factory, Cinecittà film studios offer us a fantastic journey through the history of filmography.
Located just 9 km from the center of Roma, it is the most important European film industry: a wonderland of 400 thousand square meters in more than seventy years has seen the birth of the masterpieces of Italian and world cinema.
Federico Fellini said, "They called it the dream factory: a little corny, but true. It is a place that should be regarded with respect, because beyond its walls there are gifted and inspired artists who dream for us. For me it is the ideal place, a cosmic vacum before the big bang". It is true, because in this place the dreams that were only on paper or in the mind came to life and have turned into something that will remain for years. It was Fellini, always fascinated by these studies, to convince the famous American director Martin Scorsese to shoot in Cinecitta his film about the birth of New York.  
In fact within the walls of Cinecittà have been shot more than 3000 films, among which 90 were nominated for an Oscar and 47 won the Oscar: the blockbuster Quo Vadis, Ben Hur (which still holds the record of 11 Oscars won) Cleopatra and Fellini's La Dolce Vita, the costume drama the Baron Munchausen (Oscar nomination for set design, costumes, makeup and special effects), The romantic The English patient (winner of 9 Academy Awards); the work of Scorsese Gangs of New York, the musical Nine, the charming Baaria and the adventurous Mission Impossible 3. 
To pay homage to the movies, the studios of Cinettà present the exhibition: Cinecittà si Mostra (Cinecittà show itself); a kind of self-congratulatory about the history of this place, through the projection of films scenes, the exposure of different costumes , the reconstruction of sets, the exhibition of photographs and memorabilia belonging to some people who have worked in this place, giving their contribution to the construction of this "dream factory".
This show was born as a tribute to all the people who worked at Cinecitta: from directors to actors, from producers to writers, passing through whom, even from behind the scenes, have given their contribution to transform the dreams in something real. The exhibition reproduces all the steps of creating a movie from script to post production, tracing the work of professionals involved in the creation of the movie.
Many are the exhibition spaces, both indoors and outdoors, the Directorate General house, the house of Fellini, the Broadway Avenue, the set of Gangs of New York, by Martin Scorsese, and the sets of imperial Rome. Walking in the park you can admire the historic buildings of rationalist architecture and sculptures used in many films, such as the statue made for the movie Ben Hur, that became almost its iconic image.
È poi possibile visitare teatri e laboratori dove si realizza l'intero processo produttivo di un film. Il pubblico è accolto all'ingresso dalle parole delle sceneggiature dei film girati negli Studios; varcata la soglia d'ingresso della Palazzina Presidenziale Direzione Generale il visitatore entra nel vivo della mostra, avvolto da luci, immagini e suoni.
In un susseguirsi di sale si viene proiettati tout court nel mondo del cinema e dei suoi protagonisti, in una scala che non ha vertice, ma in cui il lavoro di ciascuno è indispensabile al lavoro di tutti. You can visit theaters and laboratories where is realized the entire production process of a movie. The public is welcomed with the words of the movies shot in the studios; crossed the threshold of the Presidential General  Directorate Palace the visitor gets to the heart of the show, surrounded by lights, sounds and images. In a series of halls you get thrown the world of cinema and of its stars where the work of each one is essential to the work of all. Beginning with the room dedicated to costumes where you can admire the skill and talent of costume designers and seamstresses, through the exhibition of a selection of dresses worn by movie stars during the shooting of some important movies. The hall dedicated to set design pays tribute to the skill and inventiveness of designers and artisans, highlighting studies and preparation of the designer when they are preparing a set.
It continues in the post production room where are explained in detail all the processes that followed the shooting of a movie: editor, development, and the press. The exhibition ends with the house of Fellini, where you can retrace the history of Cinecittà and of its protagonists,here are arranged the rooms dedicated to movie producers.  A wonderful place where the myths of the past and present, passion, enthusiasm, professionalism and technology are mixed together to give life blood to the Italian and international cinema. A place where film lovers can live out their passion and the curious can find out the "Fabric of Dreams".
