Nestled on the volcano and lying in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is an international tourist destination, offering crystal clear sea, unspoiled landscapes, cultural sites and many other surprises.
Its coasts, very rugged, are characterised by a succession of headlands, coves and beaches where sea water mixes with hot water from thermo-mineral springs that flow a few metres from the shoreline.
In fact, the island, of volcanic origin, hides in the underground a high concentration of thermal springs and a large variety of waters that make Ischia the "capital of European spa".
There are more than 300 spas, where you can have a regenerating stay for your physical and mental comfort.
Ischia is also known as "The Green Island" because of the numerous pine trees and a rich Mediterranean vegetation that in spring time makes the island an explosion of colours and fragrances. The vineyards, cultivated in terraced fields, add a special touch to the general landscape of the island.
Among the many beaches, are especially worth to be mentioned Maronti beach, Citara beach, well known for its beauty, Lacco Ameno beach, the picturesque Bay of Sorgeto and Cafiero and the Bay of Bagnitiello.
Besides the natural charm, the villages reveal the many faces of Ischia and its treasures of nature and art.
Constantly bustling, the area of the Port is full of shops, cafes, restaurants and pictoresque taverns where you can taste local delicacies and listen to traditional Neapolitan music.
In the town of Ischia, the main one in the island, it is possible to visit the Aragonese Castle, the Sea Museum and the Anthonys Library, focusing on the history of the island.
The beautiful little town of Casamicciola is famous for its thermal baths and its shops of ceramists and potters. Lacco Ameno, renowned for its beaches, houses the Museum of Villa Arbusto and the ruins of the Greek Pithecusa (VIII AD) with its museum.
Forio, dominated by the fifteenth century tower, offers many attractions, including the famous "Poseidon Gardens", the spectacular complex hydro-thermo-therapy located in the enchanting Bay of Citara: a real haven for relaxation.
