Chianti

Via San Matteo is the main street of San Gimignano, entirely flanked by medieval buildings. At one time it was the northern tract of the Via Francigena which passed through the town. Beyond the double arch that enclosed the first circle of walls, the street continues between noble architecture to Porta San Matteo, which leads out of the town.
