Ravenna jewel of Byzantine art

Ravenna is one of the few cities in the world that can boast eight monuments declared World Heritage Sites by Unesco. Amongst these is the Basilica di San Vitale, a masterpiece of Byzantine art dating from the sixth century, with an octagonal plan. Not far away we can glimpse the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in the fifth century with a cross-shaped plan.
