The lemons of Garda are a symbol of the mild microclimate of the great lake basin. The lemon groves, also known as greenhouse-gardens, have for centuries marked the landscape in the last section of the Brescia bank. Rows of tall pillars enclosed on three sides by walls occupy the terraces on which the lemon trees grow. The structure supports a series of beams on which, during the colder months, boards and panes of glass are lodged to protect the plants from the cold.
